Between the Buried and Me – Colors II (Aug 20th, 2021)
Between the Buried and Me (BTBAM) have released the sequel to their masterpiece 2007 release Colors, with Colors II. Following much in the footsteps of its predecessor, Colors II is as loud and aggressive as one might expect from this group, but as they always do, they find ways to blend various styles throughout in only the way this band can. Perhaps no one band is as dynamic – shifting speeds, time signatures, and moods with breakneck quickness – as much as BTBAM. Rogers has brought his wonderful singing voice more to the forefront in recent albums and that continues here, which is perhaps the biggest chance since the original Colors. For fans of this band, this collection is as good as it can get and will certainly please. If you didn’t like this band before, it likely will not do much to change your mind.

Trifecta – Fragments (Aug 20th, 2021)
Known for their exploits in the prog word most recently, the trio of Nick Beggs (Bass), Adam Holzman (Keyboards) and Craig Blundell (Drums) join forces here for a surprisingly experimental affair. They plant their feet in firmly in the world of avant garde/improv for this collection. While the quirky choices for singles such as “Pavlov`s Dog Killed Schrodinger`s Cat” might have given one view of what the album might sound like, largely this is a collection of Jazz or Jazz- Fusion style tunes allowing these virtuosos to let loose and have fun. For something a little out of the ordinary, this is one to check out.

Scale the Summit – Subjects (June 25th, 2021)
Scale the Summit, led by guitar virtuoso Chris Letchford recently released its seventh studio album, titled Subjects. Joined by Kilian Duarte, and Charlie Engen, this album takes a detour from previous outings by introducing vocalists on each track. Subjects features Ross Jennings (HAKEN), Courtney Laplante (Spiritbox), Eric Emery (Skyharbor), Mike Semesky (Raunchy), Joesph Secchiaroli (The Reign Of Kindo), Eli Cutting, Garrett Garfield, and Renny Carroll. The singers each bring their own unique style the songs, stretching the group beyond its usual boundaries, and making for a very entertaining collection. As always Letchford’s fretwork is brilliant.
