Progressive rock keyboardist and producer, Dave Kerzner (Sound of Contact), has released his re-imagined take on the classic Genesis album “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” featuring a cast of musicians that includes Francis Dunnery (It Bites) on vocals and guitar, Nick D’Virgilio (Big Big Train) on drums, Billy Sherwood (Yes) on bass, Fernando Perdomo and special guests Steve Rothery (Marillion), Roger King (Steve Hackett) and more. The album is called “IT – A Celebration of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway”.
Kerzner plays most of the keys on the album and even used many of Tony Banks’ actual vintage keyboards which he now owns.
“This is a project I’ve been working on for many years and we wanted to finally finish and release this loving tribute for the 50th Anniversary of the album” says Kerzner. “A few years back when Genesis closed their studio, The Farm, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford sold me some of their equipment which included Tony’s Arp synthesizers, Mellotron and RMI electric piano that he used on The Lamb. It was incredible to be using that equipment on our Lamb tribute album so many years after the original was recorded”.
Kerzner’s “IT” album is called a “Celebration” as opposed to a “Tribute” because it’s more than just a straight copy of the original. The album has been “re-imagined” as a symphonic rock “would-be film score” to a film that was never made. The 25 track album has longer embellished versions of some of the songs as well as additional intros, outros and segues with a full orchestra joining a very authentic 70’s classic rock band sound.
“We wanted to make it sound as if Genesis themselves reunited as a 5 piece and were celebrating the 50th anniversary of their incredible album either on a Broadway stage playing with an orchestra or with a Lamb Lies Down on Broadway film that fans always dreamed of” says Kerzner.
Francis Dunnery’s lead vocals with backing vocals provided by former Musical Box drummer/singer Martin Levac, sound very close to the voices of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins while providing a new flavor and style of their own.
IT – A Celebration of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is now available in standard and deluxe Hi Res versions for download and CD from Kerzner’s Bandcamp page: http://sonicelements.bandcamp.com
Additionally, a 14 track “Highlights” compilation of tracks from the album is now streaming on Apple Music and all major streaming platforms.
