Beardfish – Progressive Nation at Sea Featured Band #10

beardfish

Beardfish is a band from Gävle, Sweden that plays progressive rock in a style similar to Frank Zappa and Gentle Giant.  In 2001, Rikard Sjöblom and David Zackrisson founded Beardfish together with Petter Diamant on drums and Gabriel Olsson on bass. Drummer Petter Diamant subsequently left the band, and was replaced by Magnus Östgren in 2002, joined also by flutist and keyboardist Stefan Aronsson.  Robert Hansen replaced Gabriel on bass, and Beardfish recorded their debut album Från En Plats Du Ej Kan Se in Stefan’s studio in 2003. Stefan left the band shortly thereafter.  The band was signed by InsideOut Music after releasing two albums independently; they have since released four more albums.

In 2009, Beardfish were selected by Mike Portnoy to join the Progressive Nation Tour and in September 2012, were the opening act for all European dates of the band Flying Colors.  Also, in May 2013, Beardfish were one of the opening acts (along with Sound of Contact) for all European dates of the band Spock’s Beard.  Their most recent album was 2012’s The Void.
